New South Wales Military buckle

15 Feb 2021

WE were chasing gold on an old gold field from the 1880s and wasn't having much luck so decided to detect the top area because there may have been a camp there once. My sister Mazz and her son Reece decided to join me. the grass was a bit long so we couldn't get coils close to the ground in places even though I was using the Equinox 600 with the 6 inch coil, after a few iron targets i got a shot gun shell then a shoe buckle and was working my way back on my next pass when I got a good and saw 16 on the TID so started to check the surrounding area for other target and small buckle came out of the ground. I start swinging again and for another target which was 1 part of a 2 part buckle . I started thinking a cricket buckle! as this was a goldfield and every one finds one there. I move the coil and another signal. the other half comes out. I let the others detect the area and go and wash it off and see that it's a military buckle.I go back to the area and Mazz had only found a flat brass button. I worked my machine over the area then found a military button, then another button. I called them back to the hole and we started searching with the detectors and a pin pointer and the button kept coming. I got my cousin and his son to join us ang the both scored Australia shoulder flashes ., a great haul
