On our January Club day I hit a solid mid tone. Right beside it was a high tone which I naturally dug first. I was happy to see a silver coin still in situ. I showed my father in law before discovering it was an 1851 six pence.
Curiosity got the best and as the mid tone signal was only an inch from the silver coin and of similar depth I thought I better dig it as it may not be the usual pull tab.
Once I flipped the dirt a gold coin appeared which took me a few seconds to register as to what I found due to disbelief. I had to look more then twice for it to sink in.
The yelling and screaming attracted the attention of some club members as they have never seen me react that way. After a few high fives I thought I better check the hole again which presented an identical signal to the half sovereign I just dug.
Everybody watch and witnessed another half sovereign get dug. Both were Sydney mint 1861 half sovereigns.
It was great to dug it with friends and whilst not the biggest pre decimal spill I have dug it certainly is the best.
The 15 inch coil on my Equinox 800 certainly made this possible.
