My girlfriend saw a post on Facebook on December the 28th about someone who lost their wedding ring on Christmas Day whilst walking on a beach near our house. She replied with my phone number. Almost immediately I got a call. The gentleman told me he thought he had lost his ring whilst walking on the beach. He had been married for 27 years, and the ring had his wife's name engraved in it. After asking him a few questions on his precise movements I concluded that the particular part of the beach he had visited would be almost impossible to find the ring, if it was lost there. It is s tidal estuary and the water rushes in moving objects miles up the estuary very rapidly. I asked if he had done anything else before or after his Christmas Day walk. He said he had hung the washing out just before his walk. It was a long shot, but I suggested I took a look in his back garden just in case he had lost it there. I arrived at his house just as night was falling, and I took my trusty Excalibur II from the back seat of the car. Ed showed my through to his large back garden, and I walked up the step on to the lawn. I paused, "where is the washing line?" I asked peering in to the gloom. "Oh it runs from the fence to the shed, at the bottom of the garden, I've taken it down at the moment" replied Ed. "ShallI put it back up?" "No, it's ok I'll start here" I answered. I put the coil of my Excalibur II on to the lawn, switched the detector on and there was the reassuring hum in my ear. "I love that noise!" I thought. I lifted the coil up now my arm was strapped in, and moved the coil slightly to the left to adjust the knobs. There was a great signal! I stopped, and looked the length of the lawn. Wow, there must be loads of metal on here I though, this could take ages! I moved the coil left and right again, yup a cracking signal. Ed had heard the signal and was looking at me, "Well", I said, "there's something here" I bent down and parted the grass, nothing visible. I turned on my head tour has and looked again. AMAZING!! There, trodden in to the mud with just the edge of the ring visible was a gold circle!! I dug it out with my fingers and handed it back to Ed, "Oh my goodness! Thank you thank you!" Exclaimed Ed. I couldn't believe it! The Excalibur II and I had found the lost wedding ring before I had even swung the detector! I had actually placed the coil on top of the ring as I was setting it up! Ed and his lovely wife Clare couldn't believe that they had got the 27 year old wedding ring back, and I was still gobsmacked by the amazing Christmas magic that enabled me to put my Excalibur II straight on top of the lost wedding ring as I was setting it up. Thank you Minelab for enabling me to help thus lovely couple find their special ring. I got a phone call from Ed the next day saying he has had the ring made a bit smaller and thanking me again for my time and effort, so hopefully he won't lose it again for at least another 27 years!
