On my third day traveling with Norfolk Metal Detecting Tours, I heard a signal for a button. As I pinpointed the find with my Equinox 800, I thought “another large flat button.” I turned the “button” over and saw a little gilding and a few ridges. Our guide gently cleaned my find and uncovered a gilded mount from the 13th-14th century. This smiling angel might have decorated a reliquary box or a professional staff. I’m glad to bring the angel back to the light!
