While visiting family near Bandera Texas, August knew the area was rich with history and decided to detect near the Medina River on the family property. While detecting under a large Cypress tree along the river bank with his Equinox 800, he got a solid 31 signal. Upon digging in the wet soil about 8 inches, he found what he believed to be a coin but was unrecognizable due to the heavy layer of crust on both sides. As he carefully tried to clean the coin, he realized he had just found a piece of the very history he hoped. August had found a 1854 Half Dollar.
