This past week was one if not the best week since I started detecting about 5 yrs. ago. Although my wife and I retired early and have travelled all over the country, some of my best finds came this week in my hometown of Wyoming, MN. It all started 3 yrs. ago when I decided to concentrate on 3 historical properties there. One was the original homestead property from 1850. One was many things over the years including a stagecoach stop and overnight stop for weary travellers. The other belonged to a friend of mine whose house was built around 1900. It started out slow, but I kept at it and found some cool stuff each year and now have a neat little display case of artifacts and coins from each property. I used several detectors over the years and now the finds were getting harder. I decided it was time to move on. Enter Minelab CTX and some last minute hunting before I left for Texas for the winter (on my way now) and one of the best weeks of my detecting career begins. The first find was an 1898 penny on the stagecoach property. A couple days later at my friend's house, I dug an old 5 cent token good for 5 cents trade in beer. A couple days later I went to the original homestead from 1850. I got what was a usual quarter signal of 12.45 on the CTX and a depth reading of 4 inches. I dug down about 8 inches and out popped an 1848 large cent. I was stunned. And then did my happy dance! My oldest and best coin so far and cleaned up so nice too! Can't wait to go back next summer and see what else I missed.
Just happy that Minelab was able to help fill my display cases with a few more "Treasures of Wyoming."
