Hunting the typical hunted out school yard pounded to death; built in 1897 and still standing but converted to something else. Hit a high tone at about 9 inches that sounded great. But let's back up for a moment. The day before I was hunting an 'older' park [circa 1950's], and got a great signal about 6 inches down. It flipped in the hole and I could see it was silver and my heart started racing. Got out the Foo Foo juice and started spraying. As the dirt started to melt away, it was one of those play aluminum play monies [bummer].
I knew if I was going to have any chance of finding something worth while, it was probably going to be a tad deeper than what the standard coil could reach. So I had put on my 15" arm wearing out coil. I didn't get my hopes up much on this seemly deep silver target because of the previous day. To make a long story short, after a spraying with water this pops out.
It didn't make much sense to me why such an old coin would be here, given the age of the school. Come to find out talking to the property owner, the standing school was built in 1897; but it replaced a school standing there from 1830. Hi Ho Silver Away...
