In Feb 2022 I was metal detecting in the heart of California’s Mother Lode looking mainly for coins and relics dropped by the gold miners during the 1850s. About midway through my day I swung my coil over a grassy area and got a very loud powerful mid tone, coming from right underneath this big quartz rock. I leaned down to move the rock and before I could touch it I could see the streaks of bright yellow going across the top. I didn’t even touch it I left it sit and began recording a video immediately because I knew this was something that needed to be documented. In my video when I air test the rock it actually gives my CTX an overload signal!!!! It didn’t dawn on me what that could potentially mean until later when I was at home thinking more clearly. After performing a specific gravity test on the rock it comes out to be a total weight of 4.1 pounds with 11.17 ounces of gold content. It is literally visible on every side no matter which way you turn it. Absolutely unbelievable that this rock was sitting on the surface for all this time just waiting for me to come along. The CTX is the king of California detecting for relics and gold.
