In March 2013, I was fortunate enough to find a great piece of American Civil War history while in Brandy Station, Virginia. It was during the organized relic hunt titled Diggin' in Virginia XXIII where I located a 1863 period fire or shallow trash pit using my Minelab GPX 5000.
After removing 3 iron barrel bands, a few nails and a couple of ration cans, I searched the large dirt pile and located an incredible piece of history...A Confederate buckle stamped with the state seal of Georgia! Needless to say, I was stunned! That was the second Civil War buckle I had found at this site while using the GPX 5000.
The prior year, I had recovered an eagle sword belt plate within a hundred yards of the Georgia plate. I was truly blessed with these finds and am confident the GPX 5000 was a key factor in locating these relics in areas that had been heavily detected. Great finds are still out there, folks! Don't despair!
Happy Hunting!
