Friends both hit Hammered Coins

22 Aug 2020

So I bought an Equinox 800 18 months ago after careful consideration and good reviews and wow I wasnt disappointed. So much so I purchased a 600 as a back up machine. I had great success with the Equinox and my friend Chris Critch considered buying one but never got around to it. At the beginning of August 2020 I bought the CTX 3030 so decided to sell my 600 to Chris after he had tested it for 90 minutes and proclaimed he'd found more in 90 minutes than he had in his last 2 outings. Today, 22nd August 2020 we both attended a dig arranged by Tony Cummins at Midland Detecting Days near Leek in the UK. Chris and myself both had the usual copper finds then I heard on the radio that Chris had found a Charles 1st shilling. It had been over 2 years since he'd last found a hammered so I started to make my way over to him. As I was going up a slight incline on a pasture field my CTX hit a signal. It was faint and didn't sound too good, the numbers were low and target was small. Similar to foil that I'd dug a few times that day already so I kept on walking but there was something in the tone that made me stop and retrace the last 3 meters to where the signal was. This time the tone sounded better so I dug the plug and flipped it and there it was, a James 1st half groat. My first hammered of 2020 and the first with the CTX. I quickly repaired the plug and went over to Chris who showed me his Charles 1st shilling and was beeming cheek to cherk. His first silver hammered coin with the Equinox 600 I was so pleased for him I nearly forgot about my own find. I took a photo as it's rare that 2 friends both find hammered coins on organised digs, both with Minelabs we'd both only owned for 3 weeks. Needless to say Chris is a minelab convert. A great day
