Chilly day in Yorkshire. We arrived at the field that was ploughed and rolled sandy soil , absolutely perfect conditions. The field had previously given up saxon, roman and medieval items. I fired up the CTX 3030 and began the hunt . I had several tiny bits of lead before the first find came to light ,this was quite a poor roman bronze but roman all the same . The next was another Roman bronze but this time with detail followed by some sort of cross . A little later I came across a low sounding signal and decided to investigate ...... Whilst trying for an age to locate it with my "good for nothing pinpointer that has been wet more times than i care to remember " that Has now deceased "God rest its soul! , I eventually located the item and found the bottom end of a ring pull :( , or so i thought . Lightly removing the soil from the item I saw that it wasn't actually a ring pull . Wow ! I've found an earring . I went over to a fellow detectorist to show him the find , he took my photo with it , Happy days .In the mean time more soil had fallen off . We examined it a little closer . Squashed yes but .... item actually was actually a GOLD SAXON FINGER RING Likely 600-700 A.D. ! I have used this machine I swear no more than 6 times and I have found:
A half sovereign A modern gold ring A Henry VII coin A Henry VIII coin and A friggin Gold Saxon ring!I kid you not the following items in photos were all found in the 6 hunts in less than a month. This machine was in the back of the shed! I was afraid to use it. Now I'm afraid the other is relegated to said place.
