Found and returned a lost platinum diamond wedding ring

09 Dec 2020

I was asked to find Rachael's platinum diamond wedding ring that she lost on Saturday 6/12/20 whilst she was swimming in Morecambe bay with local swimming club. She was training to be part of a team to swim the English Channel for charity. It should have been in June but COVID put a stop to this. It will now be June 2021. The ring is of huge sentimental value. She went in the sea then realised she had her rings on so she took her engagement and wedding rings off in the water to put in dry bag but dropped one in doing so. She marked the spot where it was lost visuallyShe looked in the evening and the following morning with local detectorists with no success. I got a call from friend to look for her ring. I went to look for it the next day in the afternoon. High tide was an hour away so pressure was on. She had a rough idea where it was dropped but it’s not an exact science. I found it in 5 minutes. Couldn’t believe it. Detected it then saw the edge of the ring sticking out of the mud. Such a great feeling to return a lost piece of jewellery. I calmly said to Rachael I’d found it. She was about 10 metres away from me so wasn’t aware I had it in my hand. She couldn’t believe it. It was an emotional time. I’m well pleased. Great to promote my hobby too. Thanks to the other like minded detectorists who helped with the search
