First plate!

24 Aug 2019

I recently detected a farm in Brandy Station, VA on a brutally hot August day. This area is well-known to Civil War relic hunters and has been pounded for many years. I started out finding the standard farm junk along with the farm owner's pocket knife (which he was happy to get back). About 2 hours into the hunt I dug a minie ball so I hunkered down for a bit. I got a nice signal on my GPX-4500 but I figured it was an aluminum can because it sounded large and shallow. About 6-7" down I saw the unmistakable green color of old brass and out came a beautiful US cartridge box plate, my first! Quite a memorable day for sure!
