First Gold Ring (A little story of persistence!)

31 May 2019

A little story of persistence!! I had been prospecting with the Equinox 800 for close to 7 months trying my hardest to locate swimming spots and places I thought would have jewellery. I constantly pulled up bottle tops lead sinkers hooks and just about anything metal a few old coins and bullets car tires which was really cool and interesting but I just wanted to strike gold I had almost given up and thought that people must fake finding these gold rings because I had tried anywhere and everywhere I could think of for hours and hours religiously every weekend and most nights after work I would swim until I was almost frozen solid trying to find some kind of gold. A few weeks later i decided to go see a friend on the east coast of Australia and took my equinox with me I had travelled thousands of miles from Perth Western Australia drove for hrs on end to then catch a barge over to the four-wheel-drive swimming Hotspot Fraser Island!! With a further 2 hrs four wheel drive to lake Mackenzie where I just knew I would not leave until I struck gold!! Sure enough I started to get really lucky within the first few hours finding loads of coins and some steel jewellery I started to realise that not a lot of underwater metal detecting had been done in this area as every target was a coin or bullet or something interesting. about two hours in I had finally found a what I thought was a gold ring only a few centimetres down from the surface my eyes lit up as I grabbed the ring and then swam back into the shoreline as if a shark was chasing me laughing and smiling choking on the water I grabbed my shirt and whatever I could to clean the ring up properly and sure enough engraved into the inside of the ring was 18kgp I had finally done it!!! I had found my first piece of gold jewellery and was over the moon and over the other side of the country!! But didn’t care I had finally found a gold ring!! Still to this day I’m not sure what the hieroglyph Egyptian type markings on the outside of the ring say or what it means but it’s definitely one of my greatest and favourite finds!!! With one of the greatest machines I’ve used the EQUINOX 800👌 so just Remember NEVER GIVE UP!!!
