I was one of ten Coinshooters to try our luck during a very low tide in San Diego. We met at the beach at O500 and spread out along the shore, some wading and others hunting the dry sand. I was using my new CTX 3030 and opted to wade into the shallows.
I was finding a few coins, and right at first light hit a low tone reading 12/07. I was in calf deep water at the time and took a scoop of sand with my long handled sand scoop.
As I raised the scoop I saw a glint of gold as a cross pulled out of my scoop, anchored by a chain still in the sand. I reached down and grabbed the cross by hand just as the next wave came washing up the beach. I had a heavy cross and 25 inches of gold chain in my hand! Wow! I was excited. It was still too dark to see any markings, but it sure felt good!
Soon I met our club president who was also hunting with a CTX 3030. He could make out the metal stamp with his loop. An 18K gold cross with a 14K gold chain. The cross weighs 14.7 grams and the chain 19.8 grams for a combined weight of 34.5 grams.
I now have a whopping 15 hours on my CTX 3030. 132 coins, 5 rings (two silver) and the gold chain and cross. My CTX 3030 has already paid for itself! I am all smiles today!
