First Coins Minted On Canadian Soil

24 Sep 2020

I recently detected an 1860's property. I had been finding tons f modern coins at 4 inches and was a little disappointed. Finally I got a clean 19-20-21 "no brainer" signal at 6 inches. When I flipped the plug I watched a large coin fall from the plug back into the hole. I did not get too excited, assuming it was a loonies (Canadian Dollar) Much to my surprise when I cleaned it off I discovered an 1844 Bank Of Montreal Half Penny Token. I was stoked, having never found one before. It wasn't until I got home and posted it up on Facebook that someone responded, telling me that those coins were the first form of currency ever minted on Canadian soil. That was when I really knew I had something special. It would not have been possible without the clean, without a doubt signal from my Minelab Equinox 800. CHEERS!!!!
