First bronze fibula

31 Oct 2016

Saturday 10 October, my 2 detector buddies and I were on a trip to our favorite spot around Hobro in northern Jutland in Denmark. It is an area where there has been Viking activity. I have my X-TERRA 705 fitted with a 10` 18.75 khz. We had been detecting a long day and hadn’t found anything of interest. I was detecting along a sheep enclosure with an electric fence with a lot of false signals. But then the 705 binged a steady 20 on the screen, one off those signals you have to dig. It was a beautiful Germanic iron age bronze fibula from around year 600, the oldest fibula I have ever found.

Gert - Central Jutland, Denmark.
