I had just got home after working 12 hours and I was tired but knew farmers were out planting and thought maybe they hadn't got to a field that I've been working. I headed over there and to my surprise the dirt wasn't turned. This homestead was on my county's 1872 map and gone by 1914 and I had dug 3 Indian Head Pennys including an 1866. After 20 minutes of swinging, I get a 44 hit on my Minelab X-TERRA 30 which is above quarter. I expected something big but probably junk. To my surprise I saw a large oval with a U S on it...I could not believe my eyes. I was in the middle of a field staring at a Union Civil War Belt Buckle! To my knowledge no other Buckle has been recovered in my county and is really rare find. I may never find anything better but I will surely try!
