It was a Sunday and me and my mate were travelling down to a club dig like we did every week it was lovely and Sunny. We arrived at the site I got my machine out and set off across the filed. Now my machine has served me well but is getting on a bit now. I noticed at the end of every Sweep I was getting an annoying click, checked everything but it kept doing it. However I persisted.. Then I heard a friend of mine had found a hammered so I went over to have a look. It was in lovely condition too, soil conditions were perfect so sandy but heavily mineralised.
He was going to get a drink so I asked if I could use his machine, to my surprise he said yes. Now I’ve not owned a minelab for a while and always regrated selling my sovereign GT. It was lovely to hold so well balanced , he told me how to use it but before he had got half way back to the car I got a signal I shouted him over. He said dig it could be a hammered. I started digging and about 9 to 10 inches down I saw what i thought was a milled six pence, impressive.
When i wiped away the sandy soil I was speechless I had found a mint Saxon Penny and I mean Mint! I was made up this was the best thing I had ever found but it was going to get better because little did I realise my coin was extremely rare, only a Queen Cyneryth Portrait Penny ! Only nine of these have ever been recorded. We told the land owner who was delighted. The coin will be sold and is expected to bring a considerable amount of money. This will be shared equally between myself and the land owner and I guess I owe my fiend a pint too. Hopefully then I will be able to buy myself a new detector.
