Metal Detectorist Bill Busarello found a 1976 Class Ring from George Washington High School while metal detecting at a New Jersey beach. He noticed the initials CBA were inscribed inside the ring and searched the 1976 Gerorge Washington Alumni Class list and found only one name attached, Charles Aplet. Further research revealed that Mr Aplet had unfortunately passed away in 2008. The obituary read that he had a wife and three children, the youngest named Yale. Bill reached out to Yale and received the following message from Yale's mother on Father's Day, 2022. This ring was lost during the summer of 1975, shortly before I met my late husband. Chuck had only worn the ring for a few months. When he was a senior in ‘76 and asked me to “go steady”, he told me he had lost his class ring in the ocean in AC. This morning, I told the story to Yale and Brittany when I gave them Yale’s class ring that I had been holding. The family was gathered in DC for my other son’s surprise wedding. This blew us all away. My kids have had 14 Father’s Days without their dad. Thank you for finding this…truly a Father’s Day miracle. You have given me and my 3 kids a sure sign that Chuck is always with us A local Television crew filmed the return of the ring. Another great story of how our hobby connects the past with the future.
