Every detectors dream

06 Jul 2020

Early July I went on a family holiday with my husband Terry, son Damien his wife Julie and grandkids Charlee and Chase. We left Mildura and headed to Wedderburn Caravan Park for 6 nights to go detecting for gold and coins in the golden triangle. We decided to go near Dunolly for the day in search of gold. We went out to some diggings, after walking over them for about an hour or so, and not getting to dig a target, my arm was getting sore. So I decided to go searching for coins away from the diggings, so at least I would be able to dig something, even if it was rubbish. Within 10 minutes I had this beautiful reading, had a dig thinking it was a gold coin, either $1 or $2, not expecting all these gold things to come out of the ground, 14 in total. I had never seen a sovereign before so had no idea what they looked like. I thought they were medallions or food tokens as there was so many of them. Not until I saw one that had Australia written on it did I start to think they may have been sovereigns. I then asked my son Damien where were Sovereigns made, he told me in Australia, why? I said to him I think I have found 14 of them. He was beside me before I knew it. He couldn't believe it. We were all in a state of shock. We went over the area with 5 detectors and could not find another thing. Not sure what I will do with them yet, but they are a good talking point at the moment and will be something to remember for as long as I live. Doubt I will ever find another one. My one regret is that I didn't video the great find.
