EQUINOX 600 finds antique gold ring

24 Feb 2019

A late night hunt and the beach was heavily sanded in and not giving myself and my hunting partner much in terms of finding some keepers - just some modern clad and lors of foil. We decided to call it a day as the mist had come in, when working our way towards the cars, my EQUINOX 600 hit a solid signal of 1. Now, I have never got a VDI of 1 since owning my EQUINOX 600 in October, but I from Youtube videos and forums, I know it can be a gold chain or small gold. Two scoops later I unearthed a badly worn and tarnished ring, resembling a buckle type. After much cleaning, the tarnish gave way to the colour we all love - gold! Air testing the ring however gives a solid VDI of 12 - maybe the VDI of 1 was due to orientation in the sand and the fact that the ring is not a closed hoop - I'm still perplexed on that one, but glad I dug it. Due to the hard wearing of the ring and the very vintage size adjuster in the lower hoop, it could be late 1800's to early 1900's - still not sure as the hallmarks are badly worn away. I love my Equinox 600 and soon I will be acquiring the 15 inch coil, of which I heard good things. Thanks Minelab service staff for always answering my questions and queries, which have made me a better hunter.
