Eating through Iron

17 Oct 2019

I went on a trip to see family and got to meet up with an old friend to do some detecting. We only had 3 hours for the hunt at a crop field he had hunted a half a dozen times but it was the closest spot for us. He already knew the area the home site was in so we headed to the far back to the site. You could hear all the iron like the rusty nails have taken over the site. My first target was a balled up suspender clip so I slowed down and worked the area harder. About 50 feet from it I got a quick chirp in the EQUINOX 800 that I know so well. I stopped dead in my tracks and listened as I swung. I circled the target and finally got it to lock onto high 26 to 28 on the EQUINOX. I popped a pug and it was about 6 to 8 inches deep in a dirt clump. Proceeded to pop it open and saw a tiny silver coin. I used my spray bottle to clean it off and you could see the eagle that represented a Capped Bust half dime. I flipped it over and saw the Capped Bust and a date of 1835! I thought I would never find a Capped Bust anything. This made my 2nd only half dime and my oldest Silver coin to date. That was the only coin found between the 2 of us and my only good find. Thank you for making an iron eating machine. I had a CTX but needed a light weight unit due to my disability. WildDigger out.
