Eagle Hat Badge in the PNW

04 Jun 2020

I was hunting the river bed in my hometown of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and on my way back to my truck I found an old suspender clip down about 4 inches. I did some research and discovered it was from the late 1800's. I went back and have since found over 35 Eagle buttons, all General Service except for 1 Calvary and upwards of 20 suspender clips and lots of other period finds. However, I recently dug this Eagle Hat Badge seen in the pics below. Coeur d' Alene had a Fort established here in 1879 called Fort Coeur d' Alene, later changed to Fort Sherman and was then disbanded around 1901 due to the Spanish American War. I have met and talked to some older residents in town here and was surprised to find that this area was the dump for the Fort. It is now part of a city park, and boy am I glad it is. Living this far west we do not normally see this old of military relics and have spent many memorable hours hunting the area, I now affectionately call "Buttonville". Thanks for your time and let me know if you want anymore pics of my other finds.

Thanks, Ed and his trusty Equinox 800 "Sniffany"
