I went out Saturday, Aug 18th to an area by my house that is known to give up some oldies. I hunted for an hour and found a couple wheats and then hit a nice 1897 Indian.
I knew I was in a good spot so I decided to grid that particular area and went about as slow as a person can go with the E-TRAC.
I got a nice sounding signal on the E-TRAC, but numbers were all over the place. The signal hit from all sides so I decided to dig. I dug down about 8 inches and along with a nail out pops what I thought at first was an old token.
I put with my finds rescanned the hole and covered the hole back up. I was going to continue digging but the suspense was killing me. I decided to pull it back out for a closer look.
I carefully cleaned off the soil that was on the coin and noticed a 1722 staring right at me... I was shocked... I did the happy dance, settled down and decided to keep gridding nice and slow.
Slowly gridding the area not more than a couple feet from the half cent the E-TRAC hit a nice 1916 Barber dime at 6 inches. I ended the day with a nice 1925 buffalo. The half cent has amazing detail for something that is almost 300 years old.
I just wanted to post this here at the Minelab website to show people that really old coins can be had in the good old USA if you have the right Minelab equipment to find it!!!
