On a recent trip to Upstate New York to visit my brother, we decided to do a little detecting along the Hudson River. Not long into the hunt, I came upon a good hit. Digging down about six inches, I found what looked like a pipe stuck straight down in the ground. My brother said, "Come on, leave it, it's just a pipe." But I hate to ignore a hit. " Hold on," I told him, "let me see if I can get it out."
After working on it for about 5 minutes, (the whole time my brother bugging me to bury it), I pulled out a Revolutionary War bayonet! I was stunned. We laughed, and started a victory dance like a couple of fools. When the excitement subsided, we started to hunt again and got another good hit. This time in a hillside. After digging into the hill we pulled out a cannonball with "1727" engraved on it.
