Carnival of Fun

13 Apr 2021

We had recently purchased a historic farmhouse (1880) which is quite old for our area. We moved in during the winter so my anticipation had been growing for awhile while the ground thawed, we finally had a stretch of warmer temperatures and I hit the ground running. Between digging still frozen dirt and trash I was working hard but after about 20 minutes I hit a solid mid/high tone (21-22) on the Nox 800. Everything I had dug so far had been modern so I was not expecting to pull this out, at first I thought it was a kids sheriff toy badge but after cleaning it up and doing some research I was very pleasantly surprised. My yard is quite sandy which I think. helped preserve this historic 1897 Carnival of Fun souvenir! It is definitely my favorite relic I have found and it’s even better that I was able to find it in my own yard. More info on the event/badge is located here: https://gvsuspecialcollections.wordpress.com/2016/08/29/grand-rapids-carnival-of-fun/
