Success Story

It started off just like any other day for me. It was early evening, myself and my partner had some spare time on our hands so we got the kids in the car and drove to a spot where myself and other friends have been slowly cleaning up the rubbish in the ground and finding old British coins, badges and other relics from times past. Hundreds of silver and copper coins have come from this spot but tonight was destined to be different. I fired up my Equinox 800 and walked into the patch almost immediately hitting a solid target with an ID of 19-20 on the Nox. Digging down, I was expecting another Britannia penny. My pin pointer started buzzing underneath a tree root so I carefully negotiated the target out only to be holding something completely unexpected. A gold coloured coin staring up at me from the dirt. I was thinking to myself what is a $1 coin doing that deep under a tree root. Brushing away the dirt I began to shake as the coin revealed itself. First I see queen Victoria then Saint George slaying the dragon. In the palm of my hand laid a 1885 full sovereign. The emotions started flowing in, I immediately called my partner over and we just looked in awe at what had just revealed itself to us. Over the coming days we dug ever target possible out of the site in the hope that more gold would pop out but to no avail. The Gold sovereign got valued at $1200 and made it into the local paper, local news and radio. More photos and videos of the coin can be found on my page Virgin Grounds Metal Detecting.
