Big Seas Bring New And Unusual Finds

01 Oct 2011

Winter time on the East coast of Sydney brings larger than normal seas to the beaches. It is sad to see half of the beaches have 2 metres of sand ripped down and eroding away for some hundred odd metres in length. But it is a great time to get down there and unearth what might be a lot of treasure from yester year. With the water temperature at a chilly 12C I donned my divers booty’s, cranked the X-TERRA 70 to maximum sensitivity in beach and coin mode then starting detecting at the local beach. It didn’t take long for fairly weather worn decimal targets to start to showing up. Weathered decimal coins are a good sign and indication that I was getting down in depth due to the beach erosion. I was now starting to dig up one and two cent coins. As we know here in Australia 1c and 2c coins have been out of circulation for some years now.
