The weekend finally came and another chance to get out for a swing along with it. After being bitten by the detecting bug at the beginning of the year I have been out every weekend, wanting to learn as much as I can, as quickly as I can about my X-TERRA 705 and ultimately develop a collection of finds greater than my friend who has been in the hunt for 4 years now. As the weeks went on, I slowly started to become better at understanding what's junk and what's a find worth digging, spending up to 8 hours a day (a full working day) to become better. Florins, sixpences, threepence's started to flow, my hard work was starting to pay off, every day I went out I was finding silvers, along way from just finding bottle caps, squashed up old cans, spoons, shovel heads, I could go on for a long while with all the random junk finds, but it has been all worth it. By now I should mention that I have been detecting only parks. On this cold drizzly day, this particular park paid off with a feeling my friend has not had the pleasure of having yet.
I was under a large tree filtering through high junk signals looking for that known silver coin signal, throughout the junk I get a real faint hit, so I focus in on this spot getting readings from 20-40 good numbers but wide apart, so I took off a layer of dirt and ran the coil over again and started to get a stronger signal 20-34 so keep on digging, got about 7 inches down with pin pointer out stuffed in the hole searching for it, was telling me I had a couple of more inches to go. Arm deep in the hole scratching away with my fingers I suddenly feel roundness, I gently pry out my find hoping it to be a silver, slowly open my hand and instantly start shaking, I see gold!! it’s a Gold coin!
could not believe my eyes, a perfect condition gold coin, so I quickly took some happy snaps, called my friend to tell him of my find, he was excited for me but shattered at the same time, he now bows down to me as the coin king, the apprentice who quickly became the master :) After some research it turns out my gold coin is a 1908 Melbourne (Australia) minted Half Sovereign. A spectacular find all thanks to my Minelab X-TERRA 705 love ya work Minelab :)
