I started Metal Detecting back in 2011 and been “addicted” to it since! My first machine was the Minelab Explorer SE PRO! That is what I was using when I was working a enormous cornfield along the Little Lehigh River in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. The high pitch low volume tone alerted me to further investigate and after digging approximately 16” deep I uncovered the Best Overall Find and extremely unique. This Ancient Native American Tool made from raw native copper ore mined from Great Lakes region of North America. I sent the photo to The Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg, Pa. Senior Curator, Doctor Kurt Carr of the Archeological Department invited me to the museum to have him take a look at the object. He was super enthusiastic and excited when I pulled it from my pocket and ushered me in and took my information and several photos and the approximate Google earth location of the find. Fast Forward to present day and I just came across a Pa State Museum Article that posted a photo! I was super excited, I have a piece of Mankind’s Earliest copper tooling made from heating ore to break away the raw copper then beat it to form this adze/Celt. I still have this rare piece and I am debating on wether I donate it to the museum or what I should do?
