Ancient find... in the USA!

26 Jul 2012

I had done some research in finding an old one room school house from the 1800's here in S.W. Michigan. I could not locate the pastor, so I decided to knock on a neighbor's door to try and find out some info.

They did not know a contact, but as I told them my hobby of metal detecting, I asked if it were ok to detect their yard that is adjacent to the school / church.

After getting permission I made my way and took out my trusty Explorer SE Pro. I went straight to the fence line of the church and begun swinging my coil. My detector rang out a sweet high tone w/ a reading of 27-00..... SWEET I said to myself... Thinking maybe I'll be pulling a silver coin. I dug my usual plug about 5-6" deep and popped it up.... My mouth dropped open as I saw what laid at the bottom of my plug... I knew exactly what it was.... An ANCIENT INDIAN COPPER SPEAR POINT.

Several years ago I saw a picture of one being held at our local detecting shop... PRO STOCK, in Plainwell, MI and also reading an article of one being found. I quickly called my good friend Mike Walker and told him. He referred me to a man who digs archaeological digs for Michigan State University. We set up a meeting time to meet and there he authenticated it as being the real deal....!!! They say 1,000 to 4,000 years old.... I can't believe it...!!!!

I pulled a number of goodies out of that yard.... but WOW.... an ancient find now in my hands from the USA!!! Thank you God for the blessing and Minelab for the excellent machine!!!
