Minelab

An Anglo Saxon rarity!

21 Jun 2021

Anglo Saxon artefacts don't turn up that often in our part of the world so I was really pleased to unearth this 10th or 11th century cloisonné brooch. Previous examples appear mainly in the south east of the country but this example had clearly strayed further from home. Made of gilded copper alloy the front of the brooch has twelve inset panels of blue and white enamel / glass and originally there would have been seven external lugs holding jewels or glass. Another great find for my Equinox 800, brilliant!
