The 1st thing I found was a button and it was a BENEDICT & BURNHAM which was made in 1830-1835.
Then I found a CONFEDERATE SWORD HANGER."What you have is a Sword Hanger that was made specifically for use with the English imported "Snake Buckle". It was part of the "Belt Rig" set. It is actually very rare. Very, very few of the imported "Snake Buckle" rigs were made to be outfitted with Sword straps and Sword hangers.
The very few made and ordered belts, were strictly made for someone requiring and authorized to wear a Sword. Thus, mainly Officer's or occasionally, Cavalry. Yes, although you see many "Snake Buckles", the vast majority were made without this configuration."
