A Slow High Trash Day Turned Golden

21 Feb 2020

The day started off hunting a farm field. I am predominantly a beach hunter who has not had much success in the dirt. That day, after an hour of hunting I made the comment to the two people with me the only thing in the field was dirt and shredded aluminium. We decided to go to a local park, one we have not searched before. Things started off slowly, with me as usual finding more trash than anything else which I complained about. Then we started hitting a high trash area mixed with lots of coins. I was using the CTX-3030, standard coil, and the "Coins 3 Tone" program I got when attending Andy Sabisch CTX-3030 training course. Working through the trash I dug up coin after coin. Then I dug this target making circular plugs to pull out and saw about six inches of a rope chain. I didn't get too excited at first because I was expecting it to be junk. After carefully digging out the rest so I didn't damage it I held in my hand a 20 inch 3mm 14k gold rope chain. I nicked and damaged a link which is amazing I didn't chop it into two pieces digging plugs. While looking at it the clasp fell off but it was in good shape overall. I decided to take it to a jeweller to repair it and am amazed it looks brand new. The jeweller showed me in their book this would retail for about $1,800 but sell for around $1,200. What started out as a typical dirt hunting day for me with a pouch full of trash turned out to be the best dirt hinting day so far. One of my hunting partners found a British copper the same day in that same park also using a CTX-3030. I have an Excalibur 1000, Equinox 800 and CTX-3030. My go to machine is the 3030 hands down but I do use all three. I water hunt with the Excalibur, search wet sand and knee-high wading with the Equinox and Dry beach sand and high trash areas with the 3030.
