A day on the Goldfields.

29 May 2020

Today was like many other days detecting in the Victorian Goldfields. It started off pretty slow with a couple of Brittania pennies and a few buttons. I then shifted sites after lunch and found a neat old snake buckle, a token, plus a few other nice relics. I was then headed for home. (due to the rain) i was about to pass by a spot I had researched and visited years ago but never detected due to the length of the grass. I quickly stopped in though and had a random swing the best I could in between the short patches of grass. Originally it was a Cobb & Co coach stop for travelling miners and there families. Built sometime in the 1860s, later burning down in 1891. I started off detecting around what I presume would of once been, the rear of the building. Within 10 odd minutes I found a gold gilded miners pick & shovel brooch, followed by a gold gilded ring with stone still set in top some 160 years on. The jewellery was often commissioned by the miners themselves, who wore them as trophies to flaunt their success on the goldfields. I can only imagine what's still there to find! Why I love detecting, you truly never know what you will come across next⛏
