Living in Connecticut the winters can make it very difficult to dig inland. I go to the shore where the ground is softer and the sandy soil drains quickly so less mud. On a resent trip with a few friends I found what I thought would be the best find of the day. After finding a lot of clad coins and 2 mercury dimes I heard a loud signal reading 39 on the EQUINOX. I had already dug similar signals that turned out to be can slaw, so I did not get too excited. When I turned over the plug, I saw what appeared to be more bent aluminum stuck in the bottom of the plug. I plunged my trowel into the hole and popped out the item it separated into two and I could see the eagle on the back of a barber quarter. The other coin was still covered in dirt, but I could tell it was a larger coin. As I washed the dirt off of the coin I realized that I had just found my first Seated Liberty half dollar 1865 S in the same hole with a 1897 Barber quarter. What a great find on a wonderful day watching the waves on the ocean and detecting. As I approached my friends to show off my wonderful coins they had news of their own, a one reale cob and a two reale cob both from the 1600's. As nice as their finds are I would not trade my finds for anything. Everyone went home happy. Thank you Minelab.
