A calm fifteen minute water hunt ...

Shallow water hunting here in south Florida has been difficult at the start of 2020 due to strong winds and messy surf conditions with rip current warnings. Early last Wednesday morning I checked a relatively quiet local beach and I was surprised to see that the ocean was calm. The wind and swell were predicted to pick up again imminently, so I got in the water as quickly as I could. This particular beach is steep as you enter the water, so it’s difficult to hunt if it’s not calm. It was quite rocky as the recent wave action had removed some sand, which was a good sign. After ten minutes or so in waist deep water I had a really good signal on my Excalibur II , and two scoops deep amongst the stones , shells and rocks I dug out a stunning diamond and ruby 14 karat gold ring. A couple of minutes later the wind started picking up, along with the underlying groundswell. Hunting immediately became more difficult, and I reluctantly left after a short hunt knowing there might be more treasures to find right there, but at the same time I was so happy to have had a short weather window in which I found the ring...
