2 years ago when my son Parker was 6, I took him to our first Pomona Gold Show. He like everything there, but one thing caught his eye, a metal detector. One of the Minelab reps saw this excitement and presented him one that could fit a little guy and be a lot of fun. Being only 6, we (I) passed on the purchase. Ever since, he has asked me, “when can I get one?” Then last summer, when we are walking around on vacation in Newport Beach, an older gentleman unpacks his 2 Minelab and Parker immediately asks him about them and what he finds. The man shows him 3 rings him and his wife have and a very beautiful Rolex watch he has found on the beach. Parker’s interest grows even bigger at that point. Moving to yesterday at the Pomona Gold Show, we buy the new GO-FIND 66 for Parker. First, everyone that sees him with this enormous smile and brand new metal detector wish him luck and a long life of detecting. We make it back to our home near the beach and head out detecting. I have a few coins at the ready to throw in the sand should the detector not make a sound, but didn’t wait long. We get on the sand, go maybe 5 feet and bing...a quarter. Go another 10 feet...another quarter.... then another coin and another coin. He never hit any trash until 30-40 minutes later (which is still treasure to him!). I take control while he rests for a few minutes and find nothing but a penny. He gets it back and proceeds to immediately find a nickel! Not a bad first night 45 minutes total and he Found $0.95! Can’t wait to see his luck up in the mountains with some gold nuggets!!!
