2 thousand BC Razor .

11 Sep 2020

It was such a lovely Autumn evening here in Scotland .So after I finished work I decided to go out detecting in a field that was part of an old river bed. I had just bought the 15 inch coil for my Equinox 800 and with the new update 3.1 running i thought I would give it a go just to see what’s what. I made my way heading to the south facing contours of the field i had only been in the field a matter of 5 or 6 mins. When it got this signal I checked out the number a solid 14.I then did a 360 14 14 14 was deep looking at the bars. The ground sub soil was soft then a rocky deposit that must have been an old river bed then soft again, still the signal was in the hole I went through one more layer of rocks to soft soil layer got out my Minelab pinpointer i was close ... i took out my small digging tool then I found it .. At first I thought it was an Arrow head but it was the size of my palm and the edge was Razor sharp .The patina was a grey blue..Later it turned a dark green. i had dug down about 14 inches. When I got home I was puzzled by it so I contacted Prof Tony Pollard. I have been on a few digs with him in Scotland he told me it was a Bronze ago Razor dated about 2thousand BC .. Next day I declared the razor to Treasure Trove Scotland and on the 1st October I will be giving it to National History Museum of Scotland where it will be seen by the Nation and visitors to the Museum . I found someone on line who could make me a copy so i got a copy made up made from bronze.. One of my best finds if not the best.
