1919 D Standing Liberty Quarter

06 May 2015

Start using a Minelab Xterra 305, with the 305 I was able to find trinkets, coins and mostly old toys in a vacant area next to the house. A few years later I decided to upgrade to the CTX 3030. I have been using it a short time but after all the tutorial videos and information on the Minelab website I able to understand the detector better. I'm working in Louisiana, I'm detecting a bunch of the smaller parks in the area. The particular park I've been digging in has been very giving as far as pennies and clad dimes and the occasional clad quarter go. The mud here makes the signals very difficult to understand sometimes, when you think you're digging up a quarter or dime a lot of time it's an aluminum tab. I have found that the people Louisiana really enjoy their beer I know I've dug up their cans. As I was digging what appeared to be a quarter on the 3030, I dug down approximately 7 to 8 inches showing where the target was located on the screen. As I was expecting to dig up another clad coin much to my surprise when I broke open the clump the distinctive silver edge was staring me in the face. As excitement ran through my veins I open up the clump to reveal a relatively clean and clear 1919 D standing liberty quarter. This made up for all the beer cans and beer tabs that I dug previously in the area. One of the locals here has a metal detector himself and has given me areas that I can detect, one of the areas is a Civil War battlefield that I will be detecting today after work. I hope to return to the website and post pictures from the Civil War era.
