I had been itching to get out and go relic hunting, since it had been rather cold and snowy this past winter in East Texas. So, my two old trusty hunting buddies and I lit a shuck about 3 AM to head to South Texas. We always like to get an early start on our hunting trips when we have to drive four or five hours to get to our hunt site. We intended to try to detect some old military campsites we had heard about. Now for the rest of the story, and does it ever get better. Not long after arriving at our second site we started digging gun parts, musket balls, buttons, etc. Then I saw a spot that looked like a ferry crossing or where a bridge may have been. About 30 feet from the river my Minelab Explorer SE Pro sounded off with a faint signal. It was one of those signals that I knew was going to be something good. After taking out the first 10 – 12 inches of dirt the target was still in the hole. The next scoop of dirt had my target – a beautiful 1850-O 2 1/2 dollar gold coin. If I hadn’t been using the World’s Best Metal Detection Technologies, I am sure I wouldn’t have found my first gold coin.
