St. Petersburg Beach, Fla. Oct. 7, 2014 – Minelab, the world leader in providing metal detecting technologies for consumer, humanitarian demining and military needs, today announced that Florida treasure hunter, Cliff Vogan, uncovered a hand grenade on the sandy bottom of St. Petersburg Beach. The discovery took place in waist deep water, just behind Sirata Beach Resort and Conference Center. The alarming find was discovered using Minelab’s CTX 3030 Metal Detector.
After clearing the beach, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad safely removed the device to be X-rayed, assuming it to be an inert relic from old military exercises in the area. “The CTX 3030 was developed to discover historical treasures with the most accurate target identification available.” said Gary Schafer, General Manager of Worldwide Consumer Markets and of America's Operations for Minelab Electronics. “Though a hand grenade is not necessarily treasure, we are thankful that this historical find was discovered and removed from the public beach to avoid a potentially dangerous situation.”
Minelab’s CTX 3030 Metal Detector is all-terrain and waterproof in up to 10 ft. Equipped with a full color LCD screen and advanced Target Trace discrimination, the CTX 3030 GPS allows treasure hunters to navigate to specific locations and to record exact locations of their discoveries. With five preset search modes and many automatic functions, the model is intuitive for beginner treasure hunters while providing advanced features for experienced detectorists.
